From Sandra Sirrs

Subject: tax exemption for costs of low protein products

Hello everyone,

Please forward this email to others you feel will be interested. I need an updated list of all the metabolic docs as mine is really not up to date!

The Canada Revenue Agency has recently agreed to allow patients with celiac disease to claim the incremental costs (ie. those above the costs of normal foods) of gluten free products as a medical expense. I have drafted a letter to the CRA asking them to extend the same tax benefit to patients who require low protein products. Low protein products are not covered by all provinces. In those provinces where the products are covered, this request would not change coverage as it is really a tax deduction for monies spent - ie. if the money is not spent by the patient, there will be no tax deduction.

The letter describes some attachments including the updated version of the costs of low protein foods and the comparision of the provinces as to low protein product funding. I have attached these also to this email for your interest. My dieticians are working to update this and we will submit a 2007 version with the letter.

I would like to have your support of this initiative if you agree. I have attached a signature page to this email. If you agree with this initiative, please sign the page and fax to me at 6048755967.

I will hold the letter until OCTOBER 31, 2007. Please send me your signature page before that date if you agree with this initiative.

Sandra Sirrs
