The Garrod Association Trainee

Research and Travel Awards Program


I. INTRODUCTION

This initiative stems from the Garrod association’s objective of advancing training and research in the field of inborn errors of metabolism. This research and travel award program is specifically designed to aid Residents, Fellows, Graduate students, and Post-Doctoral trainees working under the supervision of a member of the Garrod Association (please see guidelines).

The award program includes:

  1. Garrod trainee research awards.

  2. Garrod trainee travel awards.

Under this RFA, the Garrod Association solicits research grant applications in the following areas:

  • Basic research to enhance understanding of the biochemical and molecular basis of inherited inborn errors of metabolism

  • Translational research to accelerate the discovery and validation of disease biomarkers and the development of therapeutic strategies for inherited inborn errors of metabolism

  • Clinical research advancing knowledge of natural history, epidemiology, clinical care disparities, and other clinical aspects of inherited inborn errors of metabolism

II. RESEARCH AWARDS



  • Total amount available (2022): $20,000 CAD



  • Maximum award of $10,000 CAD per grant


III. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION (Research Award)

The complete application must include:

  1. Cover letter.

  2. Application form.

  3. Research proposal (2 pages maximum, excluding references/diagrams) – include a summary of the background, hypothesis and objectives, and research methodology specific to this project.

  4. Letter of support from the trainee research supervisor (see above).

  5. Ethics approval (or proof of submission).

  6. Local Committee on the Use of Animals in Research approval (as appropriate).

  7. Detailed budget.
